The American A-20 Havoc light bombers and ground attack aircraft and their Boston variant used by the Commonwealth were among the most important types of this category in World War II.
They were used in almost all theaters of operation.
To fulfil the low-altitude ground attack role, they were often converted to carry machine guns in the forward fuselage, which became known as gunships.
